GLDA International Seminar

On Saturday, 17 February, the 22nd International Seminar is hosted by the GLDA, the Garden & Landscape Designers Association, at The Crown Plaza Conference Centre Northwood, Santry, Dublin 9. The title is The Designed Garden - an unfinished canvas - who controls the evolution of the living garden? Rachel Doyle Lifetime Achievement Award

Retail Excellence has announced Rachel Doyle as the third-ever lifetime achievement award winner at their 20th retail awards event held in The Malton Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry, attended by some 600 of Irish retail's biggest names. Rachel Doyle is the proprietor of Arboretum Garden Centres in Carlow and Wicklow, a Board Member of An Bord Bía and a former President of the International Garden Centre Association (IGCA).



Woodville Gardens Snowdrop Event

Woodville Walled Gardens Snowdrop Event will be on Saturday, 10 February, with guest speaker Paul Smyth. The title of his talk is Snowdrops and Spring Bulbs - the good, the bad and the indifferent. He is gardener at Crug Farm Plants, Wales, a mecca for new, unusual and rare plants. His biggest passion is for bulbs and spring flowering plants. Information at: www.woodvillewalledgarden.com



Acorn Landscapes' Swedish garden

Sam Brindley at Acorn Landscapes took the top award for their international entry as well as an award of merit in the over €30,000 Private Gardens Category at the recent 2017 ALCI Awards. Judges Gary Graham and Kerrie Gardiner complimented their excellence in design, craftsmanship, and overall finish. The 3-acre lakeside garden, located in southern Sweden, featured terraces retained by drystone walls, extensive tree and shrub planting, and bespoke water features. Diarmuid Gavin spectacular

Diarmuid Gavin has got the green light to build a £2.3 million spectacular garden in Newcastle, England, using shipping containers. The urban oasis - the biggest ‘container' garden in the world - will open in June 2018. This is a temporary 5-year installation on Gateshead Quays which aims to create a unique leisure destination, close to the Tyne Bridge on the Gateshead side of the river.
